They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:2-3
This passage is a very good example to understand our Spiritual life. The Egyptian Pharaoh represents the devil that had us in slavery. The Egyptians represented the demons that assisted the devil in our slavery. Then God through Moses freed the Israelites that represents Jesus. The baptism in the sea represents the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The mana represents the Word (Matthew 4:4). The rock and water represents Jesus.
So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.” Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. John 6:30-36
but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:14
On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. John 7:37-39
The Wilderness represents our Christian life. We are going to go through alot of hardships and temptations but the Holy Spirit will always be with us. When we are born of the Spirit we become the new Jews by the Spirit.
A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person’s praise is not from other people, but from God. Romans 2:28-29
In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ Colossians 2:11
Since we are the new spiritual Israelites we should practice the spiritual life. As the new spiritual Israelites we should only accept the spiritual baptism that is through faith.
having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. Colossians 2:12
But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code. Romans 7:6
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1-4
God wants us to be born again from the Spirit.
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit…You must be born again…So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:3-7
The Promise Land Canaan represents heaven. Just like the Israelites citizenship was in Canaan our citizenship as the new spiritual Israelites is in heaven.
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ Philipians 3:20
But in order to get to heaven there is alot of spiritual wilderness that we have to go through and many walls that only with the help of the Holy Spirit will fall.
By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned. By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days. Hebrews 11:29-30
Only with the baptism of the Holy Spirit (being born of the Spirit) can we live this spiritual life and the Holy Spirit to guide us until we get to The Promise Land (heaven). Its a spiritual world and only One baptism that belongs to that spiritual world. That is the baptism that we must baptise with to be saved.
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16
Unfortunatly is very hard for some people to see that is a spiritual world a spiritual fight, a spiritual life therefore a spiritual baptism.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12
Jesus spoke of this people in John.
I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? John 3:12
But if we are born of the Spirit we should understand because the new man is of heaven
The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:47
Jesus has come to guide us and he will not leave us alone just like He was with the Israelites in the desert, He will be with us in our spiritual desert. But through faith believing in him that he will guide us.
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” John 3:14-15
All we need to do is have faith in Jesus and our faith will be justified because he is the only one that can grant us his Holy Spirit baptism and there is absolutely nothing that we can do, other than to trust Him to circumcised us, baptise us, feed us the bread and water of life in this spiritual world.
